Our first trip to Cyprus

by Eileen
(Northern Ireland)

My husband and I visited Cyprus last year for the first time and we were very pleasantly surprised with all it had to offer.

We were out visiting our very dear friends who had went out to live there a few years ago and had always been asking us to go out. At first we thought it would be your typical beach holiday but it wasn't - far from it. There was so much to see and do we only actually got to the beach one afternoon.

They live in a little village called Xylofagou which is lovely. Our first night there we went to eat at a small local taverna which was a typical greek eating house. The food was so fresh and tasty and the family who own and work there were very friendly.

We also did something I would never dream of doing back home and that was to have lunch from one of the vans at the side of the road, but it was the best lunch we ever had.

The lady serving us was wanting to learn English and my friend was wanting to learn Greek, so it was good to try and exchange please and thank you in a different language which of course I cant remember.

We hired a car for some of the time and had a great time exploring some of the island and of course we had a fantastic sea trip to see all the coves and marine life.

We cant wait to go back to visit again and see the rest of aphrodite's island. I am sure it will take a few trips to see it all.

I would recommend a trip to Cyprus to anyone, it's a great island to explore and the food is delicous.
